Lambda Top
What is it?
The Lambda Top is a redesign of that childhood favourite, the Spinning Top.
It was created by Jason Hui from Prometheus Lights who typically specializes in
creating custom designed torches, so he is naturally a very talented designer.
This time he turned his attention to creating an awesome little spinning top that outperforms many of the same size.

Design
The main difference in the design of the Lambda top is the
inclusion of a machine grade Ruby, yes you read that right, RUBY, as the tip of
the top instead of a standard cone.
The extremely smooth surface and durability of the Ruby gives this top an insanely clever yet simple way of spinning longer than your typical tops.

Many may see this as a toy, but I see it as a feat of engineering.
A simple principle but with careful thought and measure to create something
that is fun while still exercising it’s right in the world of physics.
The body is made of an aluminium spindle (which feels nice
and grippy on your fingers as you hold it to spin), a solid brass ring base and
then tipped with the finest instrument Ruby that makes this top so special.
There are not many things you can REALLY mention in regards
to a Spinning top, but it does everything it is designed to.Usability
Well-crafted so that it’s easy to spin, nice to grip, spins for longer than you
would imagine (personal best of 9 minutes, reported up to 12 minutes elsewhere)
and has a great balance. Also be sure to use a smooth surface (a shaving mirror
is PERFECT) to get those extra-long times.
I’ve had a lot of fun playing and testing this one out,
nostalgia beckons with every spin, always wanting to outdo your last spin.
Almost forgot to mention that it came in an attractive ring display case, so you can keep it nice and safe when you aren’t spinning to win.
